Orange Sunrise Rotarians headed to Tecate, Mexico on October 1st for the club’s 4th annual build day with Corazon. Each year, club members spend a day building a house or room addition for a worthy family in Mexico. Previous trips have been to the Cumbres village area outside of Tijuana. This was the first excursion to the “wine country” of Tecate.
Corazon is a non-profit organization that works with communities in Mexico. Families receiving homes must earn them by volunteering hours of service on other projects. The families must also secure the land for building the home.
Projects are funded by donations to Corazon. The project Orange Sunrise joined this year was underwritten by Traylor Brothers Construction.
The five members of the Felix Salazar family (including his wife, mother-in-law and two children) assisted with construction during the build day. The family also served a tasty lunch of stewed chicken, rice and beans to the volunteers.
We look forward to this opportunity for hands-on international service every year. Join us next October!
