Flex Day Project- International Coastal Cleanup

September 20, 2025 @ 9:00 am 12:00 pm

cleanup event for International Coastal Cleanup Day is scheduled for Saturday, September 20, 2025, along the Santiago Creek watershed near Santiago Canyon. This inland event is organized locally by the Santiago Creek Greenway Alliance in partnership with the Orange County Coastkeeper, and is part of the larger California Coastal Cleanup Day.

  • What to bring: Volunteers should wear appropriate clothing and sturdy shoes. Bringing a reusable water bottle, a bucket, and gloves is recommended, though supplies are often available on-site.
  • How to participate: Since International Coastal Cleanup Day is a statewide and international effort, check the Orange County Coastkeeper or Santiago Creek Greenway Alliance websites for the most up-to-date registration information as the event approaches. Waivers must be completed to participate.

Why inland cleanups are important

All inland waterways, including Santiago Creek, are connected to the ocean. Trash and debris that enter storm drains and creeks will eventually be carried to the ocean, harming marine wildlife and the environment. Volunteering at an inland cleanup helps to stop marine debris at its source.
