Orange Plaza Marks World Polio Day

Make History Banner - Square

Orange Plaza Rotary observed World Polio Day with a special “Polio Update” presentation by Past District Governor Rae Shirer.

The program will be repeated on November 5th.  Members of the public are welcome to attend to learn how Rotary’s efforts to eradicate polio worldwide have made it much easier to battle other diseases, such as ebola.

Orange Plaza to Mark Polio Day on Oct 22nd

As World Polio Day approaches, many Rotarians wonder if polio can truly be eradicated in the world by 2018. Meanwhile, most American are unaware of the risk that polio could, once again, become a problem on our own shores.

Join us on October 22nd, for an update on the battle to beat polio and learn why Rotary’s efforts make it easier to combat other diseases such as the ebola virus.

Invite your friends and family – especially the parents of young children – as PDG Rae Shirer presents “Where Are We Now?”

September Cruisin’ News

Tutto FrescoOrange Sunrise held its second cruise night of the Rotary year on September 22nd at Tutto Fresco Italian Restaurant, located at the corner of Katella and Glassell in the City of Orange.  Classics, customs, hot rods and street rods turned out for the event. Tutto Fresco donates 20% of all sales made during the cruise hours to Orange Sunrise Rotary.  The club uses all of these funds to support The Rotary Foundation and the effort to End Polio Now.

2012 Angels NiteWith the polio vaccine!  Orange Sunrise Rotary raised a total of $1,232 in September to support The Rotary Foundation efforts to End Polio Now.  In addition to the car cruise night at Tutto Fresco restaurant, the club sold tickets to the Angels baseball game fundraiser organized by Rotary District 5320.  Orange Sunrise was recognized for collecting the most donations during the pre-game chili cook-off.

A single dose of the polio vaccine costs approximately 60 cents.  Polio is still endemic in 3 countries: Nigeria, Pakistan and Afghanistan.  To join the effort to eradicate polio forever, donate today!

Orange Sunrise Rotary Honored for Charitable Giving

Orange Sunrise Rotarians turned out with family and friends to attend the annual Rotary District 5320 Foundation Dinner, honoring clubs and Rotarians for their support of the Rotary Foundation.

The club was acknowledged for achieving three giving goals in the 2010-11 Rotary year:  Every Rotarian Every Year (for each and every club member giving some amount to the Foundation); Sustaining Member (every member giving at least $100 during the Rotary year); and the Gates Challenge award for the club’s donation of $2000 during the Rotary year to End Polio Now.

In addition, Honorary Member Grant Engle was honored for his work as the Centennial District Governor and kicking off the effort for Rotary 5320 to become a 100% Paul Harris Fellow District.  The District achieved this goal in 2011, and is only the second District in the world to do so.
