Orange Sunrise Rotary is pleased to announce its new name, effective July 1, 2014. The Rotary Club of Orange Plaza will continue the tradition of service and leadership in Old Towne Orange.
Formed in 1985, Orange Sunrise Rotary met at breakfast for its first 20 years. But one day, club leaders looked around and saw that the club had many young members who were raising small children. Five babies were born into the “family of Rotary” in five years. For these young members, it was tough to get up and get their children ready for school and then get to a breakfast Rotary meeting. Now members come to the weekly meeting right after work, have some refreshments, visit with friends and hear an interesting program. At 6:30, the meeting adjourns and members head home for dinner with their families.
The Rotary Club of Orange Plaza is the organizer and sponsor of the Annual Orange Plaza Car Show, which celebrated its 20th anniversary year in April 2014. Orange Plaza Rotary Membership Chair Howard Glasser points out, “Our new name reflects our long history in Old Towne and our commitment of service to the city of Orange and its residents. But it also highlights a service club that changes with the times to meet the needs of its members and the people it serves.”
The club is now accepting new members in the fields of business, education and/or community leadership. Guests are welcome to visit the club on Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m. at the Grand Street Center, 146 N. Grand Street, Old Towne Orange.
Rotary is an organization of business and professional leaders united worldwide who provide humanitarian service and help to build goodwill and peace in the world.
